Cecilia and Jake

I am privileged to have many passions in life; family, work, keeping fit and my dalmatian, Jake are what I cherish. Art has been a life long passion, vocation and avocation.

A classical training in drawing and painting from the age of ten at Brisbane Central Technical College and a year in Vida Lahey's children's class preceeded tertiary studies in Commercial Illustration.

My first position was in advertising, as an illustrator with Myer. I later joined David Atkinson & Associates Pty Ltd, the first independant studio in Brisbane, specialising in retail press advertising.

Time out to raise three daughters and further studies at Queensland College of Art led to a career change when the family moved to Darwin. I was offered an illustration contract with the Aboriginal Health Worker Training programme at Royal Darwin Hospital leading to my appointment as the first graphic designer for Northern Territory Department of Health.

Eight years later I gained a position with the newly established Northern Territory University with the opportunity to develop my illustrative and design skills. Three years later the family moved back to Brisbane. Computers had replaced the drawing board - so further study and a new Diploma in Art (graphic design). I was offered a contract position with Queensland Health, later successful in a permanent position in the business unit, Pathology and Scientific Services. Six years later we moved to Stanthorpe and Communication Art was born. I continue to work on projects for Queensland Health along with local work. I dream of the fusion of the hand-made with the electronic for a more humanitarian look.

I plan to develop my illustrative and design skills into book illustration, cards and children's art.
